Nicolas DELARMESSIN (Paris 1684-1755) "La Sainte Vierge" (Our Lady Bridgewater) Original etching by a subject by Raphael, from the collection entitled "Recueil d'Estampes d'apres les plus beaux tableaux .. qui sont en France ”, also known as Cabinet Crozat, printed and published in Paris in 1729. Nice copy printed on a portion of 18th century laid paper without watermark, with large margins beyond the imprint of the plate, slightly burnished and with some points of foxing, one of which is more extensive, but overall in good general condition. The famous painting by Raphael, oil on board then transported on 810 x 560mm canvas, belonged to the Dukes of Orleans in the eighteenth century, as evidenced by the legend of this engraving, then came to the National Gallery of Scotland where it is now located through the legacy of the coal tycoon Francis Egerton III Duke of Bridgewater. Bibliography: LeBlanc "Manuel de l'Amateur d'Estampes" Paris 1856 vol.2 pag. 493 n ° 1. Portalis – Beraldi “Les Graveurs du XVIII siecle” Paris 1881 volume II pag. 535. https://www.nationalgalleries.org/art-and-artists/8675/virgin-and-child-bridgewater-madonna Measures in mm: 316 x 222
